In April many Australian KdVS families came together for a fun filled weekend on the Gold Coast. Queensland. The Gold Coast is situated in South-East Queensland and was easy for families to access with 2 major airports at Brisbane and Coolangatta. A total of 12 families (45 people) attended the fun 3 days and there was many new friendships forged and reunited. The weekend began with the Friday evening meet and greet, poolside at Paradise Resort which was a never ending source of entertainment for our kids. Not only was the venue perfect for our KdVS kids, but a great environment for their siblings. We all got to know each other over a casual dinner and a few refreshments.
Saturday was a super-fun day with us all attending Warner Brothers Movie World. Everyone had a great day with non-stop entertainment for all ages. The characters, shows and rides were popular but the highlight for everyone was the grand parade in the afternoon. On Saturday night we all headed over to Surfers Paradise Beach to watch a fireworks spectacular which the kids really enjoyed (and parents too!). Sunday was a casual get together poolside for most, with some families taking advantage of the Gold Coast’s attractions and heading to various venues such as Sea World, Dream World, or the Supernova Parade and Convention. Sunday finished up with a family BBQ and some final goodbyes, but a bigger and strengthened support network.
The Aussie KdVS weekend was a huge success thanks to all of the families that travelled and participated. Our next weekend is planned for January 6-8, 2017 in Melbourne, Victoria and we will have a special guest attending – Professor Angela Morgan who has been conducting the Global Speech Pathology Research Study of KdVS. Angela has spoken numerous times with Dr. David Koolen this to discuss her research paper. We will be looking forward to meeting with Angela and have her provide some feedback on the research.
